WELCOME
VISITORS!
We
welcome you to worship today, and hope you will return on
future Sundays so that we may come to know you and welcome you
into this family of faith. We also invite you to participate in
the educational and fellowship activities of this congregation.
Nursery
Care provided
by a child care professional, Claire Cole, is available for
infants and children through age 3 each week during the worship
service. An usher can direct you to the nursery, which is
located on the first floor of the Church House (the education
and fellowship building).
Church
School for
children age 4 through Grade 6 begins each week after The
Word for Children in
worship. Classes are held on the second floor of the Church
House, and parents may meet their children in their classrooms
at 11:30 a.m.
Adult
Education and Confirmation Class (for
youth in grades 7-9) are held each Sunday at 9:00 a.m. The
Adult Class meets in the Millheim Room, and the Confirmation
Class meets on the second floor of the Church House.
Off-street
parking is
available in the lot behind our building. Enter the parking lot
by turning right from Spring Garden Street onto Bank Street
(the alley alongside the church building). Any space is
available for parking on Sunday morning, with two spaces
reserved for handicapped drivers.
An
elevator located
near the rear stairway (by the back parking lot doors) is
available for those who find stairs difficult. Large
print worship bulletins may
be obtained from an usher.
The
Chancel Choir rehearses
on Thursday evenings, September through mid-June, at 7:30 p.m.

The Session has called THE
ANNUAL MEETING of the
Congregation and Corporation of the First Presbyterian Church
of Easton for Sunday,
January 29, 2012, in Legacy Hall immediately
following the 10:30 a.m. service. The business of the meeting
will include presentation of the church operating budget for
2012, the hearing of annual reports of church teams and groups,
including financial reports, and consideration of an amendment
to Section 8.A. (second paragraph, first sentence) of the
church By-Laws. Current wording of the sentence to be
considered for amendment is There
shall be a minimum of twelve (12) elders, divided into three
(3) classes equal in number.
The proposed amendment would change that sentence to read There
shall be a minimum of nine (9) elders, divided into three (3)
classes equal in number.
OPPORTUNITES FOR
FELLOWSHIP AND GROWTH
ADULT
EDUCATION, which
meets from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Sundays in the Millheim Room,
is spending the next few weeks looking at the parables of Jesus
“through Middle Eastern eyes” under the leadership
of Parish Associate Harry Freebairn. Come
join this lively group for thoughtful discussion and warm
fellowship.
OPPORTUNITES
FOR GENEROSITY
PAYING
OUR FAIR SHARE – All
members of the church are encouraged to pay the per
capita assessment
that our denomination uses to fund the operations of the
presbyteries, synods, and General Assembly of the Presbyterian
Church (U.S.A.) This year’s per
capita amount is $26.89
per
confirmed member of the congregation. Our church has benefited
greatly from the support of our denomination when we were able
to renovate our building because of the Presbyterian Loan and
Investment Program. As we have benefited from the support of
the larger church, let us be generous in supporting the larger
church by paying our per
capita assessment.
Note: Your regular pledge does not go towards per
capita;
this offering is “over and above” your regular
pledge to this congregation.
SANCTUARY
FLOWERS enhance
the beauty of our weekly worship services and bring joy to
homebound or hospitalized members of our congregation who
receive them after worship. A sign-up sheet to provide flowers
during 2012 is posted in Legacy Hall. Two floral arrangements
cost $35 and up, depending on the type of arrangement. After
you reserve your date to donate flowers, let the church office
know your price range and we will order the flowers for you
from Bloomies, our church florist. Bloomies will then bill you
directly.
Mary
Fahl in Concert
on
February 11th
First
Presbyterian Church of Easton is pleased to host a concert by
Mary Fahl, local singer/songwriter and former lead singer of
October Project. The concert, a benefit for the church, will be
on Saturday,
February 11, at 7:30 p.m. in
the Sanctuary. (Snow date is February 25th.)
Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students. There will be
a reception and meet and greet with Mary after the concert.
The
following is some information about Mary and her music:
“Sounding like no other singer of her generation”
(Allmusic.com), Mary Fahl is an expressive, emotional
singer/songwriter who first achieved fame as lead singer and
co-founder of the mid-90’s chamber-pop group October
Project. Fahl’s elegant, cinematic songs draw on
classical and world music sources, American art song, as well
as thinking man’s folk-pop. She sings in an earthy,
viscerally powerful contralto that Boston Globe critic Steve
Morse calls “a voice for the gods that can transport
listeners to other realms”. Since her “October
Project” days, Fahl has recorded solo albums for Sony
Classical and V2 Records. She has written and performed songs
for several major motion pictures, including the lead song
(“Going Home”) for the Warner Bros. Civil War epic
“Gods and Generals”. In this special solo
performance, Mary will perform a number of these songs, several
new works, as well as an October Project or two.
